West Surf Beach Easement Vote (April/May 2025)
Important Notice for West End Gulf-side Property Owners
The West Surf Beach is the beach along the southern shoreline (the Gulf side) of Dauphin Island between Pirates Cove and the western end of Bienville Blvd. The West Surf Beach is owned by the Dauphin Island Property Owners Association (DIPOA). It is a private beach which may be used by all Dauphin Island property owners (and their guests), no matter where on the island the property is owned. There are approximately 3,000 island property owners - a number which is larger than the typical number of visitors that come to the island's public beaches on any given day.
The Town of Dauphin Island has placed a proposal before the DIPOA to make the West Surf Beach a permanent "easement" for the Town, for the stated purpose of obtaining legal access in order to perform shoreline/beach restoration on the West End of the island.
West Enders have been begging for shoreline restoration for many years, as they see persistent erosion stealing the sand away.
